I received my Dexcom 7 Plus last night. I have been super standoffish (for years and years)when it comes to CGM’s. Its only been 24 hours since I received the unit AND I have been in awe of how it works. The technology is unbelievable. Speaking of technology, I thought I would share with you my urine/blood glucose time line. It has been quite the adventure….

1. 25 years ago, I began testing my sugars by urine strip (not for long). “Caribbean Queen” by Billy Ocean was the #1 single during this time.

2. Three to six months later, I would test my blood sugar once (maybe twice) a day and compare the strip to a bottle with colors (light blue would mean you are in the okay range and dark blue meant you were high). “Sussudio” by Phil Collins was the #1 smash hit at this time.

3. Middle school/freshman year in high school, I would carry around a huge briefcase that contained my blood glucose meter and equipment. (Testing 2-4 times a day). “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco was the #1 song during this time period.

4. Early 1990′s, I would move up to testing my blood sugar 4 to 6 times a day (meters became a bit smaller in size)… “Smells like teen spirit” by Nirvana was the #1 hit (for many weeks) during this time period.

5. Late 1990′s, testing 8 times a day but still having to wait 45 seconds for my darn reading! “My heart will go on” By Celine Dion top the charts.

6. Early 2000′s, the new line of meters come out. Small in size, only take a small sample of blood and 5 seconds later you have your reading. “Hot in Herre” by Nelly top the charts during this time frame.

7. Late 2000′s. Still using the same meter I did in the early 2000′s. One Touch Ultra. “Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry was the number one song.

8. 2010. Dexcom 7 plus arrives, it sends a glucose reading every 5 minutes (up to 288 daily). Plus, it tells you which direction your glucose is moving and how quickly it’s headed there . “Pants on the Ground” by General Larry Platt is a huge hit already!

Wow, I feel as though I have a huge advantage managing my Type 1 Diabetes right now. Something I have not felt in 25 + years.
