Last night, we hosted a latke party at our house for our friends. My mom always makes a turducken for her latke parties, so I thought that I’d follow in her footsteps and try it out. Because there was only 6 adults and 3 babies who were eating dinner, I went for the turducken roll instead of the full turducken. We had more than enough food, and we all left stuffed.
What is a turducken?
Well, it is a turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken. There is usually a bit of stuffing in between- ours had cornbread. My mom usually gets hers stuffed with wild rice, but I’ve seen sausage stuffing as well.
I wasn’t about to make mine from scratch. Personally, I’d rather find someone to help with that than make my own. David wants to try to make one from scratch. Maybe one day…
I ordered ours from CajunGrocer.com. I’ve read all sorts of good things about it before and was happy to find that it didn’t disappoint. The stuffing was moist and flavorful, and the meat was all delicious. Best of all, it wasn’t expensive at all. You can feed 10 people for $2.50 per serving. You can certainly get a whole turducken, which will feed about 35 or so hungry people. My mom always gets the large turducken for her holiday parties.
Turduckens are a great idea for a holiday party. Chances are, none of your guests are familiar with them, so it’s always fun to have. Have any of you ever tried turducken?
